The universe has a lot of forces, a lot of pushes and pulls. We're always pushing or pulling something, even if only the ground. But it turns out that in physics, there are really only four fundamental forces from which everything else is derived: the strong force, the weak force, the electromagnetic force, and the gravitational force. The gravitational force is basically a central force, which works along the line joining the centers of two bodies. It is always a long range force. The gravitational force occurs even when we’re talking about large distances.Even the tides that get formed by rising and falling of water level in the ocean happen because of the gravitational force exerted by both sun and moon on the earth. So, when an object falls towards earth, it happens so because of the influence of gravitational force. When only the gravitational force acts on the object during its free fall, then this motion of object can be called free fall motion. So, we can conclude that when a body (or object) falls from a height towards the earth only under the influence of the gravitational force of earthBecause of the gravitational force, the Gravitation is the force of attraction between any two bodies. All the objects in the universe attract each other with a certain amount of force, but in most of the cases, the force is too weak to be observed due to the very large distance of separation. This force of attraction was first observed by Sir Isaac Newton and was presented as Newton’s law of gravitation in the year 1680.Earth attracts every object towards it.In 1687, English mathematician Sir Isaac Newton published Principia, which hypothesizes the inverse-square law of universal gravitation. In his own words, "I deduced that the forces which keep the planets in their orbs must [be] reciprocally as the squares of their distances from the centers about which they revolve: and thereby compared the force requisite to keep the Moon in her Orb with the force of gravity at the surface of the Earth; and found them answer pretty nearly. If a body (ball) is thrown upwards, it reaches a certain height and falls downwards because of the gravity of the earth. Each body in this universe attracts other bodies towards itself with a force known as Gravitational Force, thus gravitation is a study of the interaction between two masses. Out of the two masses, the heavier one is called source mass and the lighter one is called test mass.Gravitational force is a central force which depends only on the position of test mass from the source mass and always acts along the line joining the centres of the two masses. When two objects are gravitational locked, their gravitational force is centered in an area that is not at the center of either object, but at the barycenter of the system. Barycentreis the center of mass of two or more bodies that orbit one another and is the point about which the bodies orbit. It is an important concept in fields such as astronomy and astrophysics The principle is similar to that of a see-saw. If two people of very different weights sit on opposite sides of the balance point, the heavier one must sit closer to the balance point so that they can equalize each others mass. For instance, if the heavier person weighs twice as much as the lighter one, they must sit at only half the distance from the fulcrum. The balance point is the center of mass of the see-saw, just as the barycenter is the balance point of the Earth-Moon system. This point that actually moves around the Sun in the orbit of the Earth, while the Earth and Moon each move around the barycenter, in their orbits.
